The Modern Porch

With a passion for design, my clients purchased this ‘80’s modern home with the hopes of bringing it back to life. They called on me to help them reimagine the outdoor space - make it useful, comfortable and Amazing! I wanted to bring some warmth into the space. We complimented the sharp edges of the cool white concrete and glass with wood accents, round planters and some curved organic furniture. A wood wall was designed and constructed to hide the television and stereo system. The new tile flooring is edged with the same wood siding and the existing gate was re-clad in wood to match. To counter all the concrete we broke up the existing wide concrete path by cutting 6” wide strips where the control joints were and inserted grass. This rhythmic pattern softened the path visually and literally. For all season use, we included recessed heaters into the new ceiling and a 6’ long fire burner for a visual focal point and warmth. All new furniture was purchased to compliment these materials and style of the residence. Now they can enjoy relaxing, dining and entertaining in this new outdoor living space.
