Lake House Interiors

Since this fully renovated and expanded home is just a few blocks from lake Michigan my client fondly refers to it as her ‘lake house’. This idea inspired the color scheme, subtle hues of nature. Warm woods, bright sunlit spaces and the dark blues and greens from the water. We worked closely together designing cabinetry and selecting lighting, stone, tile and wallpaper. Some of my favorite elements are the warm, matte finish of the rift white oak kitchen cabinetry with soft brass metal finishes. There are cheerful wallpapers in small doses throughout the house to bring this 80-year-old home back to life. Downsizing from a large residence in rural Wisconsin, we chose what furniture to keep and where to place it while natural inspiration came from paintings by her late husband now displayed throughout her home. I believe good design is comprehensive design, continuing the comprehensive idea down to the details. In this house we created a color palette and stuck to it. The majority of the walls are a warm matte white with a balance of wood, blue, brass and black in all rooms. It’s pretty simple but it works to pull the whole project together.
