With a craftsman sensibility, my client and I created a dreamy modern kitchen. With deft but minimal changes we turned a crowded kitchen into a Zen meditation for culinary pursuits. The client's refined aesthetic shows in the subtlety of her chosen materials. Soft gray-toned wood cabinets meet clean crisp edges of cloudy white marble, wedding warmth and tranquility. In the larger landscape, circles and right angles create a beautiful tension. Flush below the sill, the banquette opens up more interior space, while the windows above put nature on prominent display. The Saarinen table reaches up to the dome lamp and three globe lights float over the countertop adding to the room's airy charm. Cabinet doors on the island offer a serene prospect hiding clutter, while built-in shelves frame the edges of the room with generous yet unobtrusive storage.
